Nine top speakers will impart their beef industry knowledge at four field days in Victoria later this month. The days run from 10 am to 3 pm and cover a broad range of subjects containing strategies to increase production efficiencies.
This joint project involving MLA’s More Beef from Pastures program and Angus Australia features sessions on genetic advances, the Angus young sire program, managing breeding herds, early weaning, nutrition, handling challenging seasons, recessive genetic conditions, herd health, vaccination, major market specifications and interpreting sale catalogue EBVs for different markets.
Producer advocates from MLA’s More Beef from Pastures project will talk about early weaning, nutrition and handling challenging seasons. These advocates are Phil O’Toole, David Webb Ware and Mark Burge.
Major markets and their specifications now and in the future plus interpreting EBVs in sale catalogues for different markets will be covered by the DPI’s Alison Desmond, Ross Batten, Dougal Purcell and Maria Crawford.
John Webb Ware from the Mackinnon Project will talk about vaccinations and developing an appropriate herd health plan. Angus Australia’s Emma Weatherly will explain how the Angus young sire program works and will explain how to manage recessive genetic conditions.
