A bull resulting from the implantation of an imported Australian embryo topped the 2009 New Zealand All Breeds Beef Expo & National Sale on May 11 at $27,000.
Farfield TM Modest 773 was the supreme champion Angus and performance class winner and sold for the top price to a syndicate comprising Australian stud Vermont, Penshurst, Vic, and two New Zealand studs Goldwyn and Delmont.
The embryo that produced the sale topper was flushed by Ardrossan Angus at Holbrook, NSW, and implanted in New Zealand by Farfield Angus.
Modest 773 is in the top 5% of New Zealand’s three $index values, Angus Pure, Ease of Calving and Self Replacing.
His sire is Te Mania Modest M126 and his dam is the 036 cow Ardrossan Wilcoola U21 with progeny sales of over $1 million.
Vermont’s Graham Winnell said this year’s top price follows the sale’s 2008 top price of $21,000 which also involved Vermont and it was Vermont’s policy to identify and obtain the best Angus genetics available.
Overall, the 29 Angus bull sold averaged $6815.
