Middle East demand wider range of Aussie cuts

Middle East demand for Australian red meat was reinforced last week with a record contingent of Australian red meat exporters participating in the region’s largest food tradeshow – Gulfood.

Lachlan Bowtell, MLA Regional Manager – Middle East/North Africa, said the 22 exporters participating in the event from 21-24 February received enormous interest.

“The tradeshow allowed exporters to meet with current customers and set supply schedules for the coming 12 months. As well as cementing relationships with existing customers, there were plenty of new inquiries, including from non-traditional markets and products, including goatmeat,” Mr Bowtell said.

20th Anniversary Drovers Reunion

The annual pilgrimage of outback workers and the legendary “big mob drovers”  from all over Australia is set to take place at the Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame, Longreach, QLD from the 30th April until the 3rd of May for 20th Anniversary celebrations of the annual Drovers Reunion. 

As the dust settles get ready for an action packed weekend of yarn spinning, stockman’s games, camp oven tucker, bronco branding, polocrosse, the crowning of ‘Champion Ringer’, the return of the ‘Greenhide Challenge’ and more importantly to catch up with outback workers alike. EU grants Australia access to EU tarriff quota

Minister for Trade Simon Crean and Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Tony Burke are announced this week that the European Union has granted Australia market access to its new EU Tariff Quota for high quality beef.

The duty-free quota, which first became available in August last year, provides for an additional global supply of 20,000 tonnes of high quality beef into the EU each year. Read the rest of this entry »

Angus Pure joins Angus offering

Australia’s biggest cattle market joins NLRS

Meat & Livestock Australia announced today that Roma Saleyards, Australia’s largest cattle selling centre, will be included in MLA’s National Livestock Reporting Service (NLRS) from 19 January 2010.

The Roma yards accounted for more than 20 percent of total Queensland cattle market throughput in 2008-09, according to MLA’s NLRS Manager Travis Parcsi. Read the rest of this entry »
